12/24/2023 0 Comments Disney brave gif glitter![]() ![]() I also never saw these girls as completely passive either. I think thats a very bizarre take on these films. ![]() I didn't think oh I have to change how pretty I am to get a guy. It was just the adventure and the songs that were fun. I remeber being little and never caring about the princes. Batman was a huge favorite amongst my sister and I so that may have influenced us as well. But we also watched a TON of other cartoons besides this. it is highly dependent on the household and what else children are exposed to. We didn't play that much with them because we ended up cutting their hair and painting on them etc. On top of that my sister and I had like two Barbies and a few accessories because we couldn't afford much more, and they were gifts. To us these movies were just that, movies we watched for fun. Clothing, appearances, etc all came secondary. As children we were expected to get excellent grades. **Of course, and this is a crazy idea, I know, but parents needs to take an active role in encouraging girls and boys to have realistic expectations in the world about gender roles and body image and so forth. In the movie, when she's put in a gown like the one pictured, she tears it unrepentantly to shoot her bow. The character is supposed to be a tomboyish, strong female. Disney should be smart enough to know that because of this particular character, any changes would receive scrutiny. It's really not that big a deal for reasons you list and it's at least a little just people trying to be mad about something. However, this particular case I see two ways: I'm not saying go back and change Cinderalla, but going forward I think it's important for companies like Disney consider the images they're setting up for little girls.** The Disney princesses, on the other hand, are propped up as a role model. And we certainly don't deliberately set things up so they will. While children are certainly exposed to that, I don't think that kids look to those magazines and aspire to it. Any time a child walks into any grocery store with their mother, they will see Kim Kardashian fat photos on 10 magazines, along with the worlds sexiest woman. The reason it's so tripe and useless to even make Disney characters an issue is that a 7 year old girl would be far more "damaged" by body image represented in print magazines and television. She sighed and she squealed and she kicked the air! He sniffed and roared and he smelled it there! ![]()
